School Reopen Plan Approved with Restrictions

Dear Ennis Families and Community,

Last night at a scheduled Special Meeting of the board and after several hours of discussion with staff, parents, and health officials,  the board voted to reopen school to in person instruction with restrictions. As of right now, students will be back in school Monday-Thursday with Fridays being remote learning.  This schedule will be assessed on a regular basis and could change.  Please note that we will be starting on August 31, not the original start date of August 26th.  This start date will allow extra time for staff professional development to prepare for the new year.

This reopening of school will be with restrictions, which includes masks for JH/HS and optional, but highly recommended for elementary. This issue was discussed at length and felt it was necessary for safely coming back to school in person.  Several categories will be with restrictions including academics, transportation, school nutrition, business, athletics/extracurriculars, structural/physical, and social/emotional/behavioral. Strategies will be put in place in these categories to ensure that Ennis Schools is taking all the precautions to keep our school safe and open.  A final revised plan will be on the website soon for you to view. hopefully in the next 3-4 days.

With this reopening plan, we know and respect that families will make the decision to continue remote learning for their child.  If families choose that, their children will be accommodated by the school through  a quality program. The details of a remote learning program are being discussed and worked on at this time by staff and administration.

We know that the decision to reopen with restrictions will not be popular to some families.  I am excited to get our students  back to school in person.  We need to continue to work together in a positive way and keep working as a team for the sake of our school and community. Having a plan that will fit everyone is unrealistic with the circumstances surrounding us.  We are doing everything we can to have a plan that is best for families.

Please check the website and your emails on a regular basis for updated information.  If you have questions, please call me at the school.  Thank you.
